2010 Race
Chris, deepest thanks for providing us the opportunity to ride the FC 508. For me and I'm sure others it is much more than riding our bikes and suffering. It is a chance to explore ourselves and our limits within the community of ultra cyclists and others. There are not many races where the participants cheer each other on with "Great job, keep it up!" as they are being passed. This was my seventh after six solo races. Every one is different and I walk away - more like stagger - with so much appreciation of what I learned. This time I suffered with baseball-sized swelling of my lower jaw from a bee sting at about mile 15, a 13-hour Tronra-Furnace Creek leg punctuated by severe stomach problems not relieved by rapid exit of stomach contents and those Shoshone-Baker headwinds which seemed intent on wearing me down to a whimpering baby. As my brother, Mike, and I crossed the finish line all the many assertions of "I'm never doing this again" became empty words replaced with "We want to do a family 4x next year then a Hall of Fame solo after that". Thanks again. I'm deeply appreciative of all that you and the fantastic staff of Adventure Corps do to pull it all together. - Ron Sparrow Shepston
Thanks for a great race. I had a “fear of the unknown” going into it, which finally subsided when I started stage 8 and felt really good on the bike. I realized it gave me an opportunity to learn a lot about myself. So much so, I’m starting my training, now, for going solo next year! (guess I need to tell my brother, eh?) - Thanks again, Mike Shepston (2x Sparrow)
I had another incredible experience this year at the 508 - I still had major difficulties, and again took far longer than I would have liked, but it was again an enormously rewarding journey of personal challenge and discovery. Thank you for all the work you do to put on this event! I'm still in the process of sorting through my experience and writing up the race. It's amazing how much this one 48 hour period can consume your thoughts for weeks before and after... - Cheers, Adam Rock Rabbit Bickett
I wanted to thank you again for another awesome 508 this year. I have to tell you that after participating (as both rider and crew) in eight 508s since 2000, what is apparent to me is that you make such a great effort to improve what is already a great race and a great experience, year after year. You already have the race with arguably the best overall reputation in ultra-distance cycling, yet you are able to keep making it better. Please pass along my thanks to everyone involved. If I didn't have such a great time every year I would not keep coming back for more! Looking forward to it! - Gary Bear Baierl
Thanks again for the opportunity. The event was a lot bigger in every aspect than I could imagine; our success (my crew's and mine) is even more special because of it. - Darwin Sock Monkey Holt
On behalf of myself and my crew, we sincerely want to thank you and your staff for an exceptionally well organized and produced event. I'd just like to say what an incredible, indelible experience this was for both myself and my crew. I wore the jersey this past weekend at Levi's Gran Fondo and from the comments I received, a lot of cyclists appreciate what an achievement finishing this race is. I am still stoked and wondering how am I ever going to top this experience. Of course it was very challenging; but with my children and close family there supporting me, this was a sporting event filled with opportunities for living out life lessons. The rider-crew shared experience was the highlight for me. Again, the race organization was excellent. The other riders and crews were all supportive of each other. If anyone is looking for a challenge beyond a double century, or want to share an uncommon experience with a special group of friends, this ride is like few others. You'll undoubtedly see me again, either as a competitor or crewing for someone. Thank you again for orchestrating an exceptional event! Chris, thank you again for the direction you give this event. - Sincerely, David Grasshopper Neff
We want to thank you for the great time we had and the safe ride. We are aware of the tremendous amount of preparation you and your staff have to put forth for such an enormous event. We are both very proud that we finished within the allotted time, and will wear our medals and jerseys with great esteem. Thanks again for allowing us to participate in a great and fulfilling challenge. This is something two old guys will remember for the rest of our lives. - Jim Brewer and Bob Fieldhousse (West Coast Puffins)
Thank you again for hosting such an outstanding event this past weekend. This is my 5th consecutive year participating in the 508 as a racer or crew member and every year the event gets better and better. Many thanks to you and your staff for making this epic adventure a fun, safe and challenging event that myself and others look forward to attending year after year! This was my first year completing the course as a solo racer and I’ve never been so humbled in my life. However fast and tough one may think they are on the bike, the desert will strip you bare and ask more of you than previously thought possible. Only with the combined effort of a relentless crew were we able to bring the bike home. We shared the suffering with a number of new friends out on the road and the experience will last with me through the rest of my days. - Take care, Jon SKUA Skramstad
Thanks for putting on such a great event. This was my first 508, and my crew and I had a blast. And the weather couldn't have been better. Thanks again for such a great event. See you in Furnace Creek at the end of the month. - Joshua (E)scape Goat Talley
That was unbelievable. Thanks so much for putting that insane shit on and letting me do it this year. I can't wait for next year already! - Sasha Perry of 4x Wild Burros
Chris, just wanted to say thank you for another great event. Did not miss the winds like last year but between you and your support staff, you guys to an awesome job. Looking forward to my solo attempt next year. - Jay Kilby, 2x Spike the Wonder Dog
I just wanted to say THANK YOU for hosting the 508. For me it was a pretty incredible adventure pushing myself farther than I thought I could go physically and mentally. After not completing the 508 in 2009 this year was kind of like redemption for me. Originally I had thought once I completed the 508 I probably would not return for another round, kind of like a "been there, done that" however for reasons I can't explain I feel the want for more. Needless to say I am looking forward to shaking your hand at the start.....and the finish line of future 508 events. Thanks again and cheers. - John (Sockeye) Salmon
Once again, thanks for putting on such a well organized and unique bike race. It's always a fun weekend--in a sadistic kind of tortuous way (and I didn't even ride this year!) Your staff is awesome and we always meet the best people!! Thanks so much! - Dawn Chuck, Team Spike The Wonder Doug (rider 2009, crew 2010)
I wanted to thank you for running the Furnace Creek race. It was tremendous fun for our team. The course was very memorable and the race support was terrific. I do hope to try the race again. - All the best, Phil Wasco Jemielita
I first wanted to thank you once again for accepting my application this year for the FC508. My son, crew and I all had a fantastic time. I think I speak for all of us when I say that this was one of the highlights of our lives. For me, it is by far my greatest athletic accomplishment. - Best, Charles Olson aka Brooklyn Beast
I just wanted to say "Thanks" for all you do in hosting the 508. Every year I've participated I've really enjoyed the experience (maybe with the exception of this year) and I know you must put in a ton of hours to pull the whole thing off so smoothly. I hope to see you again next October. Best regards, Bill Zimmerman (Western Wood Pewee)
That was an awesome event. Thanks for all the hard work that goes into an event like that. - Thanks, Rodney Boyd (2x Red Bull)
One hell of a race, and a great time! Thanks for your efforts and those of your team! What a brutal place for a race, I love it.... Thanks again, and this was my fist DNF, I cant let it go un avenged! - Chris Siberian Weasel Pumroy
Thank you for an opportunity to be a part of the most incredible experience I have had yet in ultras or any event - truly exhilarating. Incredible course. I found myself - on the way home - trying to figure out how I would explain the experience and the course etc. I could not find the right words. I hope to do Badwater and the 508 again in 2011. I hope to see you there. I also hope to see you at the Hell's gate. Can't wait to get back on the 508 course. - Thanks again, Dan Black Sheep Jensen
Thank you for giving me the opportunity of a lifetime to do both badwater & the 508 in the same calendar year. Although my race time at BW was not my best performance and I DNF'd the 508 at Baker, i enjoyed both journeys immensely. Death Valley remains one of my favorite areas to play. In future years i'd like to pay things forward by crewing folks at both events before applying again for BW & maybe the 508 (perhaps more likely as part of a team than solo). Thank you again and i look forward to playing a part in your events in the coming years. - Cheers! - Paul Grimm
2009 Race
This was a very well organized and executed event on many levels. I could see and appreciate all of the hard work that went into this. As a first time participant, I was impressed and pleasantly surprised by the spirit of the event, the clear/extensive rules, the safety emphasis, the route, the staff, the swag, the intimate size, the totems, the national athem, the respect for minimal impact, the quick video, etc. I hadn’t realized how special this event was.
Admittedly, we were a 4x team and so it was nothing like the challenge of the 2x-ers or solo-ers, but we did have a wonderful time and the windstorm made it all the more ‘interesting’.
Our participation this year has already earned Hall of Fame status in my personal book of memorable experiences.
I’m not sure if it's the euphoria talking or what, but I did find myself considering graduating up to one of the 'real ultra' classes for next year (or beyond). I'm likely, however, to return to my senses.
Thanks to you and your crew for everything. I hope to see you again.
Sincerely, Tom Condy, First Rider, Team Clown(trigger)fish
The 508 was an out of this world, unbelievable, almost surreal experience for me and I know for my Team Spike teammates. For me, making it through Death Valley in those unimaginable winds and then having to come back 8 hours later and climb Sheephole and then the last 20 miles with a headwind taught me many things about myself, especially about having to deal with pain and discomfort and the pressure of having to succeed. And how physically and mentally tougher I am than I thought. I know my teammates had similar experiences and I know I speak for them here as well.
Together as a team it was an extreme effort that brought us closer, when it had the potential to do just the opposite. To share this with them as well with our fellow competitors was an honor.
Your staff was friendly, helpful, and tireless. Your help bringing the water bottles to Dawn when our van broke down was very much appreciated. The fact that John Marino himself assisted her while we were undergoing repairs was very special.
So thank you so much for providing an incredible experience, one that we all will never forget. - Bob Corman, 4xTeam Spike the Wonder Dog
chris - just wanted to thank you so much for an epic adventure! as a rookie in the 508 world i was impressed with your dedictaion to this race and the dedication of volunteers, riders and crew members. this was more than a race, it was a life experience and i was honored to be in the company of so many people of all ages who challenge themselves physically and mentally. kudos to all of the "crews" out there who relentlessly supported the riders through thick & thin, we couldn't do it without you! i will never forget this past weekend and hope to be back soon! thanks eh! (from one of your canadian competitors) - sharisse kyle (team teal)
I want to thank you and your entire staff and organization for the beautifully organized Furnace Creek 508. I was a 62 year-old Rookie on the Prairie Falcon 4X team and had a wonderful time. Before this past weekend, I had never ridden any ride longer than a century. I was used to SAG stops and casual cycling - not solitary riding at speed for such long distances.
Since returning home, I have begun looking for other rides in Death Valley, as I would like to see it in the daytime, and without the gale force winds. I will sign up for your Spring rides as soon as the registration opens in December. I am already planning on returning to Furnace Creek next October.
Thank you again for last weekend's epic adventure and for opening up a new world for me. - Sincerely, Thomas Byrnes, 4x Prairie Falcon
Hi Chris, ,All the thanks belongs to you, your wonderful race staff, and Our Heavenly Father! This race change my life! I feel so alive I can’t even explain it...I’m still giddy thinking about the accomplishment...just to think that a few years ago I was 40 lbs over weight...and now I’m a fit 164LBS and a rookie finisher of the Furnace Creek 508, "The Toughest 48 Hours in Sport." I can’t thank you enough for including me in this year’s race! - All the best, John Lhasa Apso Culligan
I wanted to send a thank you note for the great work you did putting on this year’s race. Being my first time I don’t have previous editions to compare but everything seemed to run smooth and be very well organized. Half of my crew is made up of teachers and they are only allotted 2 personal day per year. They used these for Friday and Monday and thus we had to get them back for Tuesday morning class. I would have liked to stay for the breakfast and festivities but we just could not afford the time. Again, thanks for accepting my application which then allowed me to partake in this pretty darn cool event! - Sincerely, Brian American Kestrel Ecker
Wanted to thank you for putting on a great event in this year's 508. It was my first experience with it, I really enjoyed it, and was very impressed with the whole thing. - Jim Swarzman, 2x Golden Gyrfalcon (Classic Bike Division)
Thanks so much for yet another challenging race experience. You and the staff put on a great race and the head winds through Death Valley are still giving me nightmares. Thanks again for all that you do. - Dan Wiener Dog Westergaard
Thanks for another great 508. This race is deffinately my favorite and it's an honor to participate in such a well run event. - Thanks again, Chris RAM Ragsdale
Thank you for putting on this outstanding event again this year. This winds in Death Valley got the best of me but I had a spectacular time on the ride and with the stellar individuals that participated in the event. Thanks again and I'll be back next year, one way or another - Jon Skua Skramstad
Chris, just wanted to say THANK YOU! This was one of the most exciting events I've ever been involved in and again I commend you for putting together such an event. My wife who helped crew for the first time is now an addict! Unfortunatly getting beat down by the winds took its toll and I only made it to the 300 mile mark when I had to throw in the towel. I'm looking forward to completing the 508 in 2010 so I will hopefully see you then. Thanks again, John Sockeye Salmon
One thing for sure ... I will never forget the 2009 FC508. The winds lived up to the AdventureCorps motto (they were "out there"). I got blown off the road at Mormon Point and laughed hysterically after being brought into the support van. It was absurd to be out there riding a bicycle, but we did it anyway. - Victor Skink Cooper
What a great 508! Thanks for arranging the challenging weather in stage 3 too. After a disastrous start that found us all by ourselves at mile 25 waiting for our rider we were thrilled to finish within five minutes before our goal time of 40 hours. - Kevin Fitzpatrick of 4x Blue Whale
Thanks for putting on this great event! It truly was an experience I'll always remember. The people, the vistas, the race. All were superb. Hats off to you and your team.
Thanks again for everything. You will definitely see me at another 508 in the future! - Ross Gray Wolf Rader
Happy to have participated and completed another 508 adventure as each year has brought different challenges. This year was particularly tough both physically and mentally, but DNF'ng would have been tough for me to live with. Thank you for all your hard work in preparing the event and executing it so well. - Kind regards, Chad Smith of 4x Bloodhound
Thank you to you and your staff to put on another great FC 508! I particularily enjoyed riding in my fifth FC 508 with my 15 year old boys - they did great! Completing my 5th FC 508, I am looking forward to the honor of being entered into the hall of fame with some great riders! Thanks again - see you next year ;-) - Tim Skipper, 4 Tandem Team TwoCan - JDRF
All the thanks belongs to you, your wonderful race staff, and Our Heavenly Father! - All the best, John Lhasa Apso Culligan PS: I received the following media coverage in my local hometown paper
Hi Chris, i wanted to write to you first to thank you for assembling a fantastic staff for this past weekend. Your efforts allow all of us to follow our dreams. - Ruben Flores, 2x Wolfman
2008 Race
The 508 is over, and it seems I was so quickly thrust back into "normal" life that I haven't even taken much to time to reflect on the experience. Having just received the first post-508 AdventureCORPS newsletter has prompted me to take at least a couple minutes to thank you for doing what you do best: putting on first-class, top-notch events. Every year you are able to say "this was the best one yet" (whether it's Badwater or the 508) and every year you are correct. This year's Furnace Creek 508 was absolutely fantastic, and it was a pleasure (and a darned good time) being a part of it. And to finally see that finish line! It's been a pleasure to be on the race staff of your events over the past five years. But what an extra special experience it is to be on the other side as a competitor. I know how hard the staff works, and I can honestly say that from this side of the fence you make it appear effortless and seamless. So, a huge thank you to you, Chris, and to each and every one of your staff who made this year's Furnace Creek 508 so special. - All the Best, Anna White Rabbit Boldon
I want to thank you for putting on another great event. I can't imagine the effort, organization and the hours it takes to put this on. Thank you. I will eventually join your staff on this race and I will experience first hand the madness. I looked at the Hall of Fame data and saw: 26 total, 20 with team efforts in their 5 finishes, 6 solely solo. I want all 5 solo finishes. - George Vargas
Thanks for a great event, from a first time rider. I was impressed to see how organized things seemed, a well run event from my point of view. - Oliver Pohl
Congratulations on another great event and for honoring me. You've gone to great efforts in highlighting my historical association with the 508 and the sport. I can't thank you enough. You have risen to the top in your organizational abilities. Everything appeared to go smooth. You have brought great happiness to many competitors and crews and it shows in the overall friendliness of everyone involved. You go to great efforts in recognizing the many noteworthy competitors of past and present, and the volunteers.
You are really my idol, really!!!!!
I had a great time and sincerely regret not being around for the entire race. I look forward to a time when my life gets a bit more simplified with more spare time. Having the opportunity to hang a bit with Bill Walton at the start was great. He really seems to be a fan of you and ultra cycling. That says a lot because he's a major sports icon.
Best to you and thank you! - John Marino (the Godfather of Ultracycling who created The 508. Info.)
Chris: You and your staff did a great job at the 508. I understand why people choose to do the race over and over-despite the course being one tough SOB! It's because of your treating all with respect and kindness-and not just a number, wanting to just collect their money!
- All my best, Michael Bulldog Secrest (winner of the very first Furnace Creek 508, AKA John Marino Open, in 1983, and an entrant in the 2008 Furnace Creek 508. Info.)
Thx for a super cool time out there. Some great memories and an epic experience! Appreciate your inviting me. - Robyn Benincasa (world-class adventure racer; (Project Athena founder)
Just wanted to reach out to you and give you a huge CONGRATULATIONS for such a successful event. You and your team did a fantastic job with this year’s 508. The entire staff was terrific to work with – the people at all the check points were very friendly and helpful and it was a blast seeing you all over the course taking photos and uploading to the webcast.
I must compliment you on the long list of rules, regulations, and safety precautions. On the front end it seems to be overkill – however once you are in the middle of the event the sense in each regulation starts to be revealed, certainly born out of much experience. Thanks for your help in getting us rookies through our first year – we had a blast.
Once again – Congratulations Chris for pulling off this monumental event, and I would definitely rank that right up with some of the tougher things I have put my body through!! - Rick Wallace, 2x Dorado
First let me thank you, Chris, and all of the amazing volunteers that made this special event possible (Almost Amboy, Kelso - those people deserve special credit!) Attempting to ride the 508 as a solo rider was so far from anything I would even consider. A quirky string of events led to that result - thanks for giving me the chances once my 2X team fell through. Sitting around the tables at the Monday breakfast listening to the incredible experience represented by the riders . . . the reality that I sort of belonged there, precious. Again, thanks. - Dan Guanaco Sauers (honestly, I felt a whole lot better than my finishing pic indicates!)
The 508 was such a pivotal change to my life. If Reed had not tricked me into that race in 2001.. I would probably have not stayed in US ten years, would not have discovered ultracycling, would not have met all great people, would not have met Marc on Pactour.... - Cheers, Catharina Bumble Bee Berge
Thanks again for putting on a great race. I would definitely consider it a very successful event from your standpoint - congratulations. - Best regards, Joel "Southern Vole" Sothern
It was a pleasure to do the event again this year. I hope that my family and office life will provide time for me to do it next year because I already can not wait to go up Towne Pass faster!! Thank you for putting on such a great event! - Dan McGehee, Team Panda Goat
Thank you for an awesome event – 508 was an amazing experience for me! As you know, I joined Team Labrador very late in the process, and basically came to race day without a ton of specific team training, but a lot of curiosity about the solo event and if I have what it takes to tackle that challenge. I learned a lot about myself out there – specifically Stage 5 to Baker…. And I came away from the experience a stronger person and rider, and fully ready to challenge myself in the solo division in 2009.
I have known George Vargas for years now, and respect his experience and knowledge in endurance cycling. I already began discussions with him regarding 508 solo training as I know it will be a full year commitment to arrive at the start line in 2009.
Thanks again for giving me the opportunity to race this year, and I hope to earn the opportunity again in 2009. See you on the road! - Best regards, Andi Ramer
Thank you! It was a pleasure to be out there. It really was an experience beyond what I imagined it would be. And it is run really, really well. All of the photos you take and the totems make for a great time. My crew had a great time too. - Matt Desert Locust Ruscigno
Thanks for a great event. It was my first time doing the 508 and I hope to be back sometime in the near future. We (Desert Pupfish) finished in just under 33 hours and I think with a little better planning we could have broken 30 hours with no problem. It was tactics and strategy, not bike riding ability, that slowed us down! - Joaquin Feliciano
Just a quick note to thank you for admitting us to the race and to congratulate you on another well organized event! We made special effort to thank each of the individuals at the time stations, as our late arrivals made for some long days for some of them and we appreciated their good cheer when we arrived.
Sorry to have given you some concern. We were confident that we could finish in the time alloted, although we would be slow but steady. I think my husband, Jim, and I held the distinction of being the two oldest male and female riders in the field, this year - so, we're especially proud to have made it to the finish line.
Thanks again for a great event. - Brennis Wagoner, Team 4x Yodeling Plankton
Thank you for another fantastic event. I am glad it appeared to be another resounding success for you. You deserve it. Thanks again - Michele Santilhano
Thanks for putting on a terrific event! It was an experience I'll never forget... - Tom Barry, Team Capybara
Nice job on the race again this year. I think Anne and I decided that it was probably the funnest race we have done in some time. We may be back, after all our crew shirts said "FC 2009" Thanks again and thanks to your great staff! - Patty Jo Struve, Snowkitty
Thank you for the most unbelievable life experience this weekend! - Billy Richmond, Dromedary
First off and most important, I want to thank Chirs and his staff for putting on this memorable event. This was my first. It IS a life changing experience. I can't get this smile off my face, nor can I avoid the moments when I sit and think about it, and it brings tears to my eyes. Thank you once again for all that you do. I want to come back to race, to crew, to help out with the race, to be a part of that again. - Mike Arenberg, Siberian Husky
Another year...another great event. Your organization is phenomenal! Looking forward to next year.... - Lori Cherry (gulo gulo)
What a memory, I can't wait until next year! Thanks again. - Gerry Cody, Wild Buck
Thanks for putting on such a great event - beyond my expectations. Thanks again. - Jeff Cross, Western Mojave Tortoise (stages 2 & 6; Looking forward to trying more difficult stages and eventually doing it as a two-man.)
Once again we had a great time at the 508. Thanks for continuing to host such an awesome event. We're planning to apply for 2009 as soon as the paperwork is ready and if selected it'll be our 6th year in a row. - Best Regards, Bill Zimmerman, 4x Western Wood Pewee
I wanted to say thanks for putting together such a great race! Team Rock Ewe thought it was so much fun - hard - but a great time. I love the comaradarie with all the racers and support crews, you never feel like you're out there alone, tons of encouragement. Thanks again for putting together this fantastic event! - Lisa Williams, Rock Ewe
I can not thank you enough... for what you have done for me and for others... you are making a difference, for the better in this world. You are giving people goals to achieve, dreams to dream, laughs, pains, hurts, and a joy in this little earthly journey... and that is what life is all about. I will be back for my hall of fame fleece vest!! - Catharina Bumble Bee Berge
I just wanted to let you know that I had a really great time at this year’s 508. It was very well run and I appreciate that. The caliber of athletes at the 25th 508 was just staggering. I knew there were going to be a lot of racers but I didn’t know that so many of them would be so fast, especially the women. Looks to me like Title IX just doesn’t apply to the 508. I don’t know how that compares to other race courses but I believe it’s a significant milestone that you should be proud of. Thanks again, Bruce “Fabled Tortoise “ Carroll
Dear Chris Kostman and Corpsmen and women: Heartfelt thanks for the attention to detail and commitment to communication evident in the online resources available to off-site supporters of the race and of riders. I was able to follow my Spider husband's spinning progress quite nicely, and even viewed his podium moment in living color and sound. He greeted me! Del's done many events far from home; few, if any have even attempted the level of detail and timeliness of results that you achieved in this installment of your event. Congratulations and thank you to all, especially organizers, number crunchers, athletes, crews, and volunteers! - Charla Wheeler, Del Scharffenberg's partner.
Chris: Want to congratulate you on having such awesome coverage for the 508. I'm laid-up with a cast on my right arm, and a hernia that's causing me considerable pain: one which I should get repaired next, with any luck. It really hurts not being out on the course in some capacity or other, but having this wonderful coverage available lets me keep in close contact with the action. Later ... Dan Crain
I hope that this finds you well. My first attempt at competing in an ultra distance cycling event ended successfully just after midnight. My apologies for taking so long to write with a race report, but I just regained enough feeling in my right hand and fingers to be able to type.
I have nothing but great things to say about this race and it's organizers. Congratulations on having put on a great race! What stood out about this race from all the other races I've done was the simple fact that everyone involved genuinely cares. Thank you for investing so much time in all of us. - Jun Japanese Macaque Watanabe
2007 Race
Thank you so much for putting this event together. I know i speak for my team, the capybaras, when i tell you that we had the time of our lives riding the 508 this year. I know it couldn't happen without a ton of organizing that we never see, so i just want you to know that i (and we) appreciate what you've done to make it happen. - Patrick Morriss, Team Capybara
I wanted to say thanks again for the outstanding event this weekend. Your support team was fantastic and as always an inspirational set of individuals arrived to participate. The amount of effort adventurecorps puts into this race is staggering and I don't know how your team could have pulled it off more smoothly! - Take care, Jon Skramstad, Team Sgt. Major 2x
I just wanted to send out a note to thank you, your crew, volunteers and everyone else that had a hand in putting on and supporting this magnificent event. Words just can't express the great experience that we (I guess I'm speaking for the Sphinx) had. You and your crew demonstrated the utmost in professionalism and care for all riders and the space that we covered and touched. Rarely, does the average person have an opportunity to explore this great expanse in California, and for us it's our backyard. If it weren't for this race, I potentially would've missed some great local landscape. Also, all the other teams out there were magnificent. None of us needed (luckily) support out on the road, but I felt (as a rider) that if I was in any kind of duress that any of the support vehicles would have helped me just like we would've helped someone else. Yes, this is a race, but it seems like the comradery and eagerness prevails. Anyway, I just thought you should hear it from another person that this race really makes bicycling / racing / adventure (you put the descriptive words) a better experience! THANKS! - Allen Yee, Team Sphinx
The race was spectacular this year. Perfect weather for me ... nice and cool. The stars were amazing going to Shoshone! Thanks again for an awesome event!!! - Isabelle Drake ... aka Wrentit
We had such a great time doing the 508! We hope to be invited again next year. Your crew was FANTASTIC! - Cheers, Gloria Castro, Team Wolf Fish
What an event! The FC508 was another awesome experience. We are all thankful for the hard work you put into this event. It has become a part of our lives and will, hopefully, be involved in it one way or another for many years to come. - Thank you again, John Lauer, Team Cuckoo Bees
This is far and away the best ultra event I've had the privilege to take part in. In 5 yrs I've had a chance to ride 2X and crew 3X. From either side of the windshield, it is a challenge and an adventure. Thanks for making and keeping this the epic event that has become. It would be great to come back & pedal it someday. Thanks again for holding this event. - Jim "Shrike" Kern, crew for recumbent soloist Godzilla
Chris-I just wanted to take time out and thank you for putting on such a special event. Despite not being able to ride in it this year, I had just as much fun crewing. You and your people did a great job. I could tell you've been part of this event for 30 races. Your heart gives it away. Thanks for the very special weekend! I'll see you next year. - Ride and smile. Gary "Nutcracker" Franck
Although I dropped out at TS 7 I just wanted to say it was a great ride. I've never dropped out of a ride due to not being able to eat so I was really disappointed. This was my second year and I can honestly say there isn't anything I would change about it. Considering the distance and the amount of things that could go wrong you and your "crew" do an outstanding job. Thanks for a great ride and I'll see you next year ( if you let me in : ) )!! - Mike Bridgsche AKA Collared Lizard
We just got home after a long journey, our heads fulfilled with everlasting memories about an exiting event, wonderful people we met at the starting line, on the road and at the finish line! It was a pleasure to ride my bike at fc508 and i am sure that (like my countryman Schwarzenegger once said) I'll be back!! Well, I have got a lot of photos, media coverage and a race report on my website www.franzpreihs.at ! (but in german only) Once again, it was a pleasure to meet you and your stuff! We are looking forward to see you again soon! - Best wishes from HOUSE MOUSE and CREW (Franz Preihs, Austria)
Thank you for putting on such a terrific event. This race definitely ranks as one of my favorites—along with my first Ironman, which will always be special—and racing at the World Championships. It provided motivation for me to get back on my bike after breaking my collarbone...and, quite simply, I had a great time out there. So much fun that I hope to come back and do it solo next year. :-) - Best regards & Thanks again for putting on such a great race. - Donna Nice (2X Black Panther)
Thanks for putting on a great race and providing a fantastic experience. For a couple of rookie riders and a rookie crew, we didn't make tooooo many mistakes and had an awesome time. We're already making a list of "lessons learned" for the next one and one way or another (either sagging or racing) will be around for next year. - Mike "Black Panther #2" Pyle
Thank you for putting on such an awesome event! My crew and I had a great time and really enjoyed being involved with the 508. My local paper ran a story about my ride at the 508. Again thanks for puttin on such a great event. See you "out there". - Hugh "Dall's Porpoise" Gapay
Thanks for putting on another outstanding race. I tell my crew that the 508 unfolds itself and they find it to be true. This is only because it is so well organized and produced. You and your crew are simply the best! Also, thanks for all that you do and for keeping us safe during the 508 with well thought out saftey rules. Thanks again for a great race on a great course. I'm looking forward to next year. - Sean Crow Cuddihy
We had a great time in the 508. My crew was fantastic. We won't forget it for a long time. I look forward to receiving my race jersey in December. That was my dream race. I decided a year ago that I was going to do it. I told Eric the Ostrich that he was one of my main pieces of motivation for the event. I have an excellent photo of me standing with him at the bike inspection the last time I was there (crewing), when we both had blond hair....his with 508 stamped on it in blue. I am going to send him a copy as it is so good: I was so thrilled to see him again.(funny what motivates you eh?) It was also great to meet Cindi....she puts a lot into the race. Please thank her for me. It will take a long time for me to calm down and get back to normal....the 508 was AWESOME. Thank you. - Ann Woolridge, wolf spider from the UK
Had a GREAT time at the race! Thanks so much to you and all the volunteers for making it such a wonderful experience! I had better get my race resume ready early to be able to get in on the 2008 festivities!! Thanks again for such a great endurance race! I am already spreading the praises! - Sara Kay Carrell, Team 2x Sea Dragon
I wanted to say thanks, for letting me be apart of this amazing one-of-a kind race! I felt very, very, very lucky to be in the Furnace Creek 508, and known as the kid that started with the ‘jansport school backpack, gym shorts, and mountain bike shoes’. I loved riding through the night, loved the desert atmosphere, and loved being around other ultra athletes like me. Randomly, I must add, I thought that the organic cotton shirts were pretty awesome. I heard about organic cotton, and now I own a sweet kick ass Furnace Creek 508 shirt, printed on organic cotton!
Well, I would like to share how I went down to my DNF grave. (Click here for her full story.) Until the next ultra race. Thanks again for letting me be apart of this race. - Deanna Aye-Aye Adams, rookie soloist
I have run a lot of marathons and completed a lot of cycling ultra distance events, but nothing came close to comparing with the adventures we enjoyed for the Furnace Creek 508. I will return to do it again in one or two years with the goal to set a new course record for the 60+ two man team. - Franz Kelsch, Team 2x Prairie Dog
We had an all-rookie 2-man team and an all-rookie crew, and thanks to the great advice on your website, we had a wonderful time. Although we only did the 2-man relay, it still is one of the great athletic endeavors in my lifetime, and I found the entire experience exhilerating.
I had a chance to chat with you while I was riding Stage 2 and one of your other workers while climbing Salsbury Pass on Stage 4. I really enjoyed the care and encouragement that you and all the race officials exhibited. You all do an incredible job and put on an incredible event.
Finally, this event sure seems to attract very nice people. Virtually every time I passed a support vehicle, be it on the road if I was overtaking a rider or pulled to the side when they were playing leapfrog, I received encouragement from the crew. That always brought a smile to my face and reminded me I was actually participating in a race and not just another ride. - Best regards, Jon "Iron Horse" Lieberg
Thanks again for allowing our Team IronHorse to compete in the 508. We know that you had a lot of applications to choose from, but we are grateful for the opportunity to compete. My teammate and crew did not know what they were getting into, but I did promise them an adventure. We did have an adventure!! It was a great weekend.
It was nice being around the people associated with the 508. When you tell them that the weekend following the 508 you are going to run a marathon they simply give you "the nod". It isn't the typical reaction of most humans - "you gotta be crazy". Or even other athletes who would reply "you gotta be crazy." Those adventurous souls simply give the nod of approval and understanding of what it takes to "be out there". - Jim "IronHorse" Yanoschik On the Journey to Being Out There!!!
I've been meaning to write you to let you know how much the Capybara team enjoyed the race. It was a great adventure for us, which we cannot stop talking about. We're all looking forward to trying it again next year, perhaps as two 2x teams. Kudos to you and your staff for putting on such a great event! - Thanks, Mindy Capybara Eiermann
I am sure I speak for everyone when I say thank you for hosting such a fantastic event! The work that you have done, over the years, just to keep all of the local municipalities willing to allow us to be there, is huge! I know from advocacy work what one has to do to make things happen, and to be making things happen year after year is truly a feat worth noting! - Steve Red Tail Hawk Scheetz, crew for White Rabbit
2006 Race
tout d 'abord un grand merci à ta course et surtout à ton professionalisme exemplaire.je reviendrait car j 'ait été obligé d 'arrèté à furnace creeks. i am very very very déçut. i am very finisher next year. comment fait ton pour rentré dans ton caf, donne des dons, faire partit de l 'assossiation porté les tee shirts de la fondation je serait très honorè. salut chris. - dominique charton
What an incredible race and what an amazing adventure.
My eyes say thanks for the desert landscape and sights of the traveling circus that is the 508. My ears say thanks for the nervous chatter at the start, the silence of Death Valley under a full moon to the cheers of encouragement from crew members. My taste buds thank you for every pack of energy gel that tasted like gourmet dining and every sip of water that was better then the last. However, my back side isn't talking to anyone...
Oh, and congratulations on the best magic trick I've ever seen. You turned Twenty Nine Palms into America's most beautiful city for a day. Ask any finisher as they crested the final rise that offered the first view of Twenty Nine Palms if that wasn't the most beautiful city they had ever seen.
The 508 was lots of training, major planning, a chunk of money and well worth all of it. I will be highly recommending the 508 to my friends and clients.
You caught up to me on Townes Pass at a point when I was having stomach issues and if I was less then cordial I apologize, I was just trying not to puke in front of you. By the way the photos you snapped of me at that point are quite funny.
Thanks again, a fantastic event!! - Be well, Ashton Johnson, Two-Man Team Prairie Falcon
Wanted to give you a couple of days to catch your breath after the race. Great race, and thanks for the hard work to make it great.
I also wanted to thank Shanna Armstrong (Dik-Dik) and her team for the help they provided us during the race. We had missed the Badwater turn and were moving down the road when Shanna’s support vehicle comes racing up to us and flags us down to tell us we had missed the turn. As we turned around, we could see Shanna’s lights in the distance stopped, waiting for her support crew to return. The ten to fifteen minutes she lost to help us was greatly appreciated, and we’re glad to see it didn’t affect her first place finish. It’s hard to loose even fifteen minutes when you’re only at the midpoint of a long race and can’t see what the upcoming miles will bring.
Before, during, and after the race we saw a number of situations where a team or an individual was taking the time to help someone else. This is what true sportsmanship is and it reflects well on you and your team who has done a great job of attracting this type of competitor.
Thanks again for a great race, and thanks to Dik-Dik and the many teams which make this race what it is. - Lance Martini, Team Gray Fox
I just wanted to thank your for putting on an amazing race this year. As a rookie (team Platypus) we had a great time riding through the desert and thought everything was really well organized. Hopefully, we'll be back, and possibly some day solo.
Anyhow, thanks again Chris, and thanks for letting us be part of this amazing event. I'll never forget being alone in the desert with my bike under the moonlight - John Heiss
I want to tell you that I am so satisfied with how you and your staff ran "the 508". I have wanted to do this race since I first starting doing Ultras in 2003 and heard of this incredibly difficult race from more veteran Ultra cyclists.
I am very thankful for the webcast. My family and friends were able to follow me throughout the weekend. My co-workers, I work at Nytro, a bike shop in Encinitas, posted pictures, downloaded from your site, around the shop with "Go George" and "Go Vireo". This of course prompted questions from customers of "what's this about?". And yes they able to worry when I was missing in action reporting in to a time station because of stomach issues I had all of Saturday.
Your organization of the website for this year is so professional and easy to find results and pictures. You had the results posted in what seems to be immediately. I will definitely come back to do this race again. Thank you for providing the course, the "support" and the adventure of "the 508"! - George A. Vargas ("Red-Eyed Vireo")
Thank you for a great race again! I'm proud and exhilarated to be able to a call myself a Furnace Creek 508 Champion. I'll see you next fall. (-: - Sincerely, Michael "Alpine Ibex" Emde
Thank you and congratulations to you as well on another successful event. By the way, that was the best goodie bag I've ever gotten... Beter than Ironman, RAAM or any other event :)
Thanks again, and I hope to see you all next year. - Andres J. Caicedo, Two-Man Team Red Kangaroo
Thanks for putting on this race that's equal parts good and evil. Maybe with time, my memory will repress the evil parts and I'll only have good thoughts for the race.
Thanks again, and all kidding aside, the race was awesome! You put on a good event. - Vikki Appel, Four-Woman Team Swallow
Thanks so much for putting on such an awesome event. I am totally hooked on your organization. WAY WAY WAY cool event, teams and all around awesome adventure. - Lissette Baker, Four-Woman Team Swallow
Thanks for another great event. We really had a blast!
I'm again really impressed by how dedicated you are to your event and the riders. What an epic event. The relay format was super fun but still very, very hard! - All the best, Paul Skilbeck, Two-Man Team Red Kangaroo
This is a letter to say thank you.
I'm a friend of Vinnie Tortorich aka Pound Puppy. I know of your company only because of him. When he registered for the 508 he wanted to race on behalf of a group that needed help financially. I've been working with an animal welfare organization, as a volunteer for years and he generously dedicated his race to that organization, the Lange Foundation. He's a huge animal lover and so am I. It is because of the Pound Puppy's race at the Furnace Creek 508 that we were able to work together and raise funds for dogs and cats that so desperately need it. I can not thank you enough for providing the venue for us to do that. The Furnace Creek 508 is a wonderful event and I admire the dedication that it takes to organize it. I hope it continues and grows for many years.
Thank you. - Kind regards, Tressa Lucas
Chris, just a quick e-mail to say thanks for organizing a great event. Your hard work and planning made the race an incredible experience for all of us! Also, our fundraising total to date for CAF is at $15,000. See you next year. - Thanks again, Kip Grossman, Two-Man Team African Swamp Rat
Thank you again for an awesome cycling weekend! The scenery was amazing and the course was very challenging. This was mine and Pete's first attempt at a 2-person race, and we both feel that it's easier to just ride the whole thing solo. We struggled with the abrupt starts and stops with no warming up or cooling down, which caused our legs to stiffen.
We did find out that we enjoyed the leap-frogging and even had a good time doing it! You should see the video we made from the "Kitten cam." Hysterical!
One of the high points for me was in stage 4. We had a few issues that kept us from being real fluid at our transition from TS 3 to 4, and we watched several other teams come and go while we stayed there. So Pete told me I needed to pass 8 people/teams to regain where we were among all the riders.
All I could see in the darkness of the desert were the flashing caution lights of other riders ahead of me. One by one I began to pass teams and solo riders. By the time I got to the time station, I had passed 11 groups! What a momentum builder that was! I got the opportunity to briefly speak to each person and say "hi" to their crew driver and realized that not everyone was as cheerful as I was. ;o)
I'm going to write up a story about our experiences and send it to you. Thanks again for such a great event. All the extras really made it a special races (the pre-race meeting, medals, t-shirts, goody bags, photos, audio interviews, webcasting, professional staff, etc).
See you "out there" sometime...that is if I don't sell my bike beforehand. ;o) - Take care, Wendy Gardiner, Mixed Two-Person Team Kitten
On behalf of the Mongrel Dogs, thanks again for another great race!! You guys do a great job putting this together. The logistical organization and support was terrific. The spirit of the race is also great as it is a serious race, but everyone is out to have a good time and not take it too seriously. - Todd Wexman, Four-Man Team Mongrel Dogs
In the process of locating a solo racer, we had the privilege of driving the length of Red Mtn Road from the Hwy 178 to Hwy 395 and back. We are extremely impressed with all of the racers, pace cars, crews, and even one of the race officials. All of the pace cars were courteous and moved over when we approached from behind, the racers stayed fairly close to the shoulder. The markings on the SAG vehicles were very visible and the names for the racers are an awesome idea. Thanks for the cycling inspiration, so much so we are going to attempt to put together a four person team for next year.
Thanks to all who are a part of this exciting cycling adventure. - Bill and Carolyn Nye, Jen's Fans (Fast Rabbit)
2005 Race
You do an amazing job keeping the fire alive and burning for so many of us who love the challenge. This years race will be another of many journeys that we all share. Keep up the great work that you and all your staff do. See you in October. - Joe Petersen, Four-Man Team Hammerhead
Tout d'abord félicitations pour l'organisation de cette superbe "course" , c'était pour moi une première à vélo et cela a été un réel plaisir de découvrir à nouveau une aussi belle région. - Sportivement, Patrick Candé (Golden Eagle)
I wanted to thank you for a very well run event. The thing I noticed most, and I mention it to everyone, is your personal passion for the event. You're out there on the course, you're talking to all the competitors, you're shooting photos (and getting them posted quickly), etc. - Sincerely, Doug "Polar Bear" Patterson
I participated this year in the 508 as part of the Mongrel Dogs team.
Just wanted to write you a quick note to thank you for an amazing race. It was an incredible experience, in many ways other-worldly. The organization was terrific. I especially liked the fact that you didn't treat the deal too seriously and were willing to have fun with it with the totems and such. The staff of officials and volunteers was really great! My only complaint was that there were a few other really rude teams who actually beat us, the nerve!!! I presume they won't be invited back!! - Todd Wexman, Four-Man Team Mongrel Dogs
I can only imagine how draining it all is, I know for sure that no-one could work that hard unless they are truly committed. So thank you for what you bring to the event. - With Kindest Regards, Paul "Muddy Mudskipper" McKenzie
Thank You for this great race! You did an excellent job! I had very much fun on the road, inspite of the strenuous course. I have participated in many endurance multisport events since 21 years, but the 508 was the biggest, I have ever done. You live in a fantastic country and landscape, that is totally different to Europe. - Yours, Gerhard "Marmot" Dobmeier, Germany
Chris, here is another of what must be a flood of email thanking you for your efforts at organizing the 508. The race was perfectly set up by you and your very able staff. I am going to spread the word on the east coast about what a great and beautiful event this is. The scenery along the route defies words. Our crew had a blast and it gave me some quality time with my dad, who moved to Arizona when I was 17. I hope I can be allowed to race again next year. - John "Yellowjacket" D'Elia
I really appreciate your hosting the race. This has really become a big league event in the years I’ve been associated with it. I’m still high as a kite about finishing! - Kevin "Griffin" Griffin
Thanks for organizing such a terrific bike race! For an event like this to operate so smoothly there must be a huge effort happening behind the scenes and it is obvious that you dedicate a ton of time to pulling the whole thing off so well.....and we really appreciate all your hard work. We all (Western Wood Pewees) had a great time and look forward to coming back next year. - Bill Zimmerman, Four-Man Team Western Wood Pewee
Experiencing the 508 last weekend was incredible....and working with Dan Dominy made it even more memorable. Coming into your racing environment without much knowledge of the bike racing genre, I was thoroughly taken with the camaraderie of the staff, riders, and crew. I will admit to my adrenaline cruising at high speed while Dan and I trekked through the course chasing down riders. The unmatched scenery provided a backdrop of color and light that heightened the drama of this event. I was totally into the race ambiance from start to finish, and could easily become a race junkie given the opportunity.
Thanks so much for making it happen. I can see this is a personal labor of love for you and knowing how many positives you generate within the racing community and your charity must make all your efforts worth the sacrifice. Sometimes we don't see the broad picture as our vision is limited within our working boundaries...but I could see from the entire spectrum of those involved a real positive tide of good that will go beyond the race itself. - Thanks again, Lana Corless, 508 video staff
Thanks for another great year of 508 racing! After last year's punishing winds, I wasn't sure whether or not I'd tempt fate again by coming back...sure am glad I did. In addition to putting on a wonderful race, you also ordered some very nice weather this year :)! Thanks much...and thanks again for a great race. Huge thanks to all of your race staff too - they were wonderful! - Jennie Phillips, Tandem "Relucent Phoenix" with Craig Robertson
I live in Italy; We met some years ago during RAAM's. I think into years 2000 or 2001? Always, I watched AdventureCORPS and his events. I had some races and one PACTour done so far. But sadly, I never entered FC508 due logistics and lack of a skillful crew.....
Soon or later I hope to race "my" FC508. My cycling friend and RAAM finisher "Nico VALSESIA" (who placed behind Ultralegend "Peter Pop" on one edition) is encouraging me to sign for 2006. Right now I had no plans for the oncoming season. Will see. I never been to Death Valley, in such places as Baker, Shoshone or 29palms! I could never imagine and feel the sensations while racing/ride into Desert terrain and Hot weather!
Every year, the ever-growing field is a clear statement of how well directed and organized is the race! FC508 could be easily one of the Best Ultracycling events in the U.S.! A pity not to take part in it! Even as a Crewmember. - Sincerely, Luigi Barisone, Italy
I would like to take the opportunity to thank you for that most wonderful and painful growth experience last weekend. For years I thought about it and was afraid to try it. Now I know why! Seriously, it was a great experience and I complement you on a well run event. As a team participant in 2002, I was caught up in the excitement of the race itself. As a solo this year,, I got a different view of the dedication and commitment of so many individuals like yourself and all the crews that make our dreams as solos come true. I may never be able to do RAAM but I will be back for more punishment in the future. - Sincerely, Doug "Polar Bear" Patterson
2004 Race
I would like to thank you for another great FC508! We (Team Tweety Bird) had a great time, and truly appreciate all the hard work that you go through to put this on. I look forward to being there again next year - hopefully as rider, maybe as crew, maybe as volunteer if you need help. - Regards, Jack 'Blackbird" Bochsler, crew for Tweety Bird
There is a part of the movie "City Slickers" where the three stars are riding along on their horses and one asks the other what was his best day ever...despite the DNF, the Saturday of the race rates right up there with my best days. Coming from Northern Canada, bringing three friends, racing with some of the best long distance riders, in a very well run race, through spectacular scenery.... definitely one of the best days. Funny how things go, on the ride back to LA after DNFing, my crew chief told me, that because of my outlook on things etc, I would probably get some value out of reading one of Steve Ilg's books....later that night in the hotel room we see that he was in the race....! Like I said, funny how things go. Thanks for a great race, will definately be back next year. Entire support crew signed on that very day for next year. Like I am telling everyone up here, I have to go back, I have some unfinished business in the desert. - Bob "Loch Ness Monster" Lees
Just wanted to say again how good the race was. I think you really stepped up the tone of the event with the pre-race presentation. The entire program added the "epic" dimension that the riders know is out there, but that many of the rest of the audience are not aware of. The theater venue, the music, the video, the personal presentations...wow, it was like "The AdventureCorps Two Wheel Oscars!" Anyway, we had it all... Pre-race enthusiasm, fast riding, slow riding, crew/rider miscommunication, slow riding, rider implosion, slow riding, rider resurrection, slow riding, crew panic, slow riding and then towards the end, we had some slow riding, followed by a minute of post-race enthusiasm and finally unconsciousness. A perfect weekend. - Thanks, Jeff "Saluki" Stevenson
Awesome race! It was my first 508 (and my first race, for that matter...), and I'll definitely be back. It was well-organized, well-staffed, and Team Serval had a fantastic experience. My only regret is that I have to wait a whole year to ride it again. As Rick Akita Ashabranner put it to me today, I'm hard-core hooked. Again, thanks for a great race!! Congrats to you and your staff. - Jennifer Swenson, Four-Woman Team Serval
Just a quick note to thank you for the great stories and photos posted on the 508 website. You’ve provided a great way for family and friends to follow the race and enjoy the cyclists’ progress. This year seems to have been an especially grueling one, judging by the number of DNFs. I did the 508 a few years back and hope to cycle in the event at least one more time. My 508 jersey is beginning to show some wear and tear, so I may need to earn a new one. Again, thanks for organizing the 508 and for your support of endurance cycling. - Sincerely, Brennis Lucero-Wagoner, Team Yodeling Plankton
Hello! Fennec Fox here! Thanks for a great weekend! I feel like I got the best value for entry fee dollar of all the riders out there. Thanks! - Michael Fennec Fox Fox
Chris, I'm sure I speak for the entire Javelina team in saying thanks for putting on a great show. Wow, we are just starting to understand the enormity and significance of the ride and what we were able to accomplish!! I hope to be there next year... maybe with a two-man team (i.e., Javelinito!) - Cheers, Michael Young, Four-Man Team Javelina
I've done A LOT of racing in my life but this last weekend and this team ranks right at the top. It exceeded my expectations. I did my best to keep an open mind and go with whatever chi flow the team provided...I believe I can speak for the other three in that no one was disappointed with anyone's efforts. The new team format is really interesting when you are crewing for each other with no official crew—just yourselves. For a last minute team, we really worked well together on the road. - Ron Jones, Four-Man Team Sasquatch
It was an epic race, one that I don't regret and will never forget. I hope to be back next year. Thanks for continuing the good work! - Dan "Crane" Crain
Hey Chris, great job! This was my first time crewing (or even having anything to do with an even like this) and I was amazed at how well it was run. You guys did a killer job. I can definitely say I will be back next year to crew for the Lemur again! Thanks again and I'll see you next year! - Steven Dowling Jr.
Just wanted to say thanks for organizing such a memorable weekend. Even though our finishing time was somewhat "glacial" we all had a great time and are already talking about next year. Keep up the good work. - Regards, Bill "Freight Train" Zimmerman, Four-Man Team Western Wood Pewee
Thanks again for organizing such a great event—it was an amazing experience for all of us, and it's clear that the organization and attention to detail from you and all of the volunteers made things go very smoothly.
Once things have calmed down a bit for y'all, we were wondering if it might be helpful for riders/crew to send notes to the Park Service letting them know how much we appreciate them getting the road open/repaired in time for the race? If so, let us know—we'd be glad to help provide positive feedback. - Cheers, Colleen Shannon/David Moore, crew for Desert Tortiose
Hi Chris, what an epic this year's 508 was. The toughest of them all. I am glad I was able to finish. As they say " Pain is finite, DNF is forever." - Thanks again, Peter Penguin Pop
