Turkey: Ephesus, Sardis, Gordion, and Hatusa / R0014274

Photos by Chris Kostman, June, 2002: If we thought the Mausoleum was not up to its original snuff, the Temple of Artemis at Ephesus was even more laughable. This other Wonder of the Ancient World has been reduced to one pillar in the middle of a swamp. The stork's nest on top was its most (only) interesting aspect. Thank god they didn't actually try to charge an entrance fee for this "site." In the background is the hilltop citadel originally built in the 6th century AD which dominates the skyline of ancient Ephesus / modern Selcuk.
